Poolside, with LP records playing and the sun setting over the Las Padres mountain range.
In a nutshell
No. of rooms
The design aesthetic is...
rustic retro roadside ranch.
The typical guest is...
the West Coast roadtripper or LA hipster weekender.
The location is...
ideal, on the edge of Ojai town proper and only a short bike ride up to the very chill community of Miners Oaks.
Interaction is encouraged by....
the communal pool and lawn area, BBQ grills, fire pits, sauna and an on-site bar – The Chief’s Peak –yoga, live music and other events and activities from time to time
You should stay here because
such a fantastic balance of unique style, communal vibe, surrounded by heaps of things to do in an incredibly beautiful area.…Easily one of my favourite Destination Outposts!
Amazing social vibe, lots of interactions, plus some organized events/activities.
What took you there?
Some time to relax, unwind…. and get in some serious gravel cycling up in the Los Padres mountains.
What was your room like?
Natural wood-grained finishes with a dash of cowboy. My room had a super comfy king-size bed and a functional little kitchenette. Other room options include fireplaces, jacuzzis and rollaway beds.
What about the venue
One of a group of fantastic hotels, bars and restaurants from the crew at Shelter Social, The Ojai Rancho Inn is everything that Destination Outpost stands for – just the right amount of everything and at an affordable price-point, a lovely level of charm and family feel with some SoCal charm. And thanks to the on-site bar – The Chief’s Pea – a real social buzz with locals dropping in, a pool to cool off in, amiable bartenders that care about good mixology and record selection. There is also live music usually on the first Sunday of the Month.
Bikes are available for a spin into town or up to the delightful and super laid-back villagey-vibe of Meiners Oaks with a collection of places to replenish with some wholesomeness.
Tell us about the destination
Nestled amongst the orange orchards, Ojai is such a dreamy little enclave. Think Palm Springs without the hype. Loads to see and do, hiking, cycling, health-spas….Spanish-style buildings wrapped in bougainvillea, and health-conscious cafés, outdoor bookshops.
Go for a weekend and stay for a week.
Who did you meet there?
A young couple from Los Angeles on their first night of a road trip…. A group of friends getting together after a meditation retreat. A few locals dropping in for a weeknight cocktail.
The springs are a few miles out of town in a picturesque corner of sacred Ojai Valley land. Relish in the sacred healing powers and explore the beautiful community-supported sustainable gardens. Book into the Learning Garden, to learn out the common characteristics between humans and plants
Some of the West Coast’s best gravel cycling. Head on over to the good people at The Mob Shop to sort out a bicycle that can ride on gravel roads and get on one of their morning group rides on fantastic trails around and out of town.
