What took you there?
I had a daytime event in DUMBO and a concert in Williamsburg so I needed something central in Brooklyn with a bit of character.
What was your room like?
The room was spacious by New York standards! Minimalist grey interiors and bright pops of street art adorn guest rooms, and chalk boards in the bathroom encourage of-the-moment artistic expression. Some rooms actually have large scale murals by local artists if you’re in need of inspiration. The space provided welcomed respite between our day’s events and strolling busy streets of Brooklyn, allowing us to be relaxed and gently inspired.
What about the venue
Covering the first four floors of a recently constructed condo building at the corner of Smith Street and Atlantic Avenue, NU has a minimalist modern Brooklyn feel with basic fixtures and furniture.
Tell us about the destination
Perfect brownstone homes, world class restaurants, high-low shopping, and Barclay’s Center for sports and entertainment are all a short walk away. With a detention center across the street however, the exact location of NU hotel is not something to write home about. Despite the immediate surroundings, the atmosphere inside is quiet and relaxed, suitable for solo travelers, friends and business trips. Its convenience to downtown Brooklyn, Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Fort Greene and DUMBO is what makes this location so desirable. The venue offers bicycles, so I would hop on and get out to explore. As I visited over the winter, I grabbed a short cab into DUMBO for an event and walked to Cobble Hill for drinks before popping by a friends house walking distance to NU.
Who did you meet there?
I met two guys in the lobby as they were headed to Barclay’s Center for a game and a couple exploring Brooklyn during cocktail hour also in lobby. It’s a casual environment conducive to relaxed conversation.
