Michelberger

Hip-Freddy in Friedrichshain

Absolute Highlight

Noon lounging in the central, open air courtyard.

In a nutshell

No. of rooms

The design aesthetic is...
industrial modest modern, with some unique flair.
The typical guest is...
a mix, but seem to be mostly artsy/hipster-y. International.
The sustainability features (ie. plastic free, recycling, green wall, garden) are...
an all-organic restaurant with ingredients sourced from their own farm using regenerative agriculture, and large-format refillable bathroom supplies.
The location is...
very convenient and close to some great restaurants, bars and clubs.
Interaction is encouraged by....
friendly open spaces and its bubbly atmosphere.
You should stay here because
it's quintessential Destination Outpost - social, genuine unique design, very welcoming and a great locale. Oh and great vibes.
What took you there?

A long time coming, and finally the opportunity arose. A quick flight and I was enjoying a magical few mid-summer days sampling the delights of Berlin, paying homage at Berghain and gathering some bits and pieces before heading to a magical summer festival in Poland.

What was your room like?

I was fortunate enough to find myself in the “Chalet Room”… beautiful high ceilings, windows looking into the courtyard… and decked out like a mountain cabin. Amazing bed. It felt more like a home.

What about the venue

Loved it. Loved the laissez-faire attitude… people rolling in from large nights out at all times. The spaces seemed to encourage interaction. The playful aesthetic. The live music and talks. The savvy staff. A philosophy of fostering and supporting creativity and arts. The tasty organic bites and spinning cocktails. Can’t wait to go back.

Tell us about the destination

Berlin perhaps has to be one of the coolest, hippest and of course most progressive cities in Europe, if not the world. It has a smorgasbord of bars, restaurants and clubs across so many neighbourhoods around the city and those in the area surrounding the Michelberger are some of the best. Just one minute to the U-Bahn, two minutes to the S-Bahn or just roam the streets by bike and go wherever your heart takes you.

Who did you meet there?

Hanging out in the reading lounge I met a lovely couple in their late 30s from New York, who were also on the way to the same music festival. We still keep in contact!

Surrounding Activities

Admiralbrücke

On a balmy summer evening hang out at Admiralbrücke - a charming 19th century cobblestoned and gas-lit bridge… grab a beer from the local kiosk and enjoy the general buzz.

Eat. Sleep. Rave. Repeat... at Kater Blau

If you’re into house and techno music then Kater Blau is one of a multitude of exceptional clubs that will serve you a delightful array of beats and rhythms.

Hang out at Tempelhofer Feld

So many bars and restaurants, but what about taking a bike and finding some green space at Tempelhofer Feld… an old city airport, now a massive open field for picnicking, cycling, urban farming and generally hanging out.
