What took you there?

Me and my SO wanted a relatively affordable stay on the cliffs of Bingin to surf the days away. I had seen Dreamsea Surf Camp on a few Instagram pages and the location looked perfect for us.

What was your room like?

There are a few different room options depending on budget and the type of traveller you are. If you are a solo traveller wanting to share with another, simply click the “shared twin room” option when booking, and you will automatically be placed with someone who has chosen the same. A bunk buddy is perfect for meeting like-minded people! It’s worth noting that some rooms have shared bathrooms at the end of each level.

We stayed in the suite room which had its own private ensuite and balcony overlooking the ocean.  Simplistic yet dreamy ‘rustic-chic’ white-washed interiors, complete with bamboo walls, thatched roofing and tropical plants really set a bohemian scene. The room was spotlessly clean, safe for the daily influx of sand brought in from our bathers.

What about the venue

If you’re going to visit a surf camp in Bali and can get your mind (and body) around schlepping up and down 1oo (ish) insanely steep steps every day in order to get to the retreat (and the bottom of the Bingin cliffs), then you really can’t go wrong with Dreamsea. Location and views? Tick. Decent amenities and restaurant? Tick. Lovely hospitality and sociable guests? Tick. Affordable. Tick Tick!

Perhaps the biggest highlight of the retreat is the seemingly endless wooden terrace stretching the length of the hotel. There’s plenty of lounges, plants and cute wicker seats you can perch yourself on while taking the time to get to know other guests – there really is no better place to chat and watch the sun go down!

Daily yoga classes on the deck are designed to relax the mind and body while reminding you of how lucky you are to be in such unique surroundings (read: you didn’t really need reminding). And of course, the surf camp being, well, a surf camp, has plenty of daily opportunities to grab a board and get out amongst it with instructors and other guests.

Tell us about the destination

Some of the best times I’ve had in Bali have been spent watching the sun go down on Bingin Beach, eating fresh prawns, sipping Bintangs and bonding with free spirits from all over. Bingin is the whole package; breathtaking beauty, relaxed surfer vibes and rustic accommodations.

Who did you meet there?

A bunch of epic, local surf instructors, some of which I still speak to a couple of years on. Dutchie influencers and some Norwegians who were hilariously horrible at surfing!
